Tilley Hat to the rescue: turtle edition!
As the word is getting out about the book, I am starting to get people sending me some pretty darn interesting things! Loved this photo from A.M. Todkill who explains:
"A Think Turtle Conservation Initiative volunteer was surprised by Midland Painted Turtle hatchlings emerging sooner than expected from a protected nest on her property in the Bancroft area. How to get them quickly out of the baking sun and to the nearest suitable body of water? The means immediately at hand – or head – was her trusty Tilley hat."
For those of you who don’t know, Think Turtle Conservation Initiative is an amazing organization that, although headquartered in the Bancroft area, works with turtle education and organizations across Ontario (and beyond). Here’s a description from their website (link below): Think Turtle Conservation Initiative (TTCI), founded in 2018 is an award winning volunteer group engaged in provincial awareness initiatives and species recovery efforts in Bancroft and neighboring communities. Utilizing evidence-based information and data in support of its mission TTCI works with community leaders, organizational representatives and concerned citizens to drive change and build partnerships in pursuit of strategies to protect Ontario's turtles from the threat of extinction.
